Software Engineer (SWE) Skill Level 3

Wyetech is seeking an experienced Software Engineer Level 3 (SWE3) to join a team working to modernize an existing data tracking and metrics system. This position has a strong User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) focus and will be responsible for developing highly usable end-user interfaces while applying UI best practices, accessibility standards, and user-centered design principles.

The Software Engineer will work closely with users, analysts, product designers, process engineers, and software development teams to research user needs, translate workflows into intuitive designs, develop prototypes, conduct usability testing, and deliver accessible user experiences supporting mission-critical applications.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Twenty (20) years of experience as a Software Engineer (SWE) supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

• Five (5) years of experience with a strong background in user-centered design, UI best practices, usability testing, and the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, implementation, and deployment.

• Demonstrated UI/UX experience developing highly usable end-user interfaces.

• Demonstrated working knowledge of Linux, CSS, JavaScript, and HTML to support UI design, troubleshoot design-related issues, and collaborate with development teams.

• Experience working directly with users and analysts to research, develop, and document user profiles and user performance requirements.

• Experience conducting task analysis and workflow mapping and developing and testing user scenarios.

• Experience developing UI design specifications and supporting documentation, including wireframes, mockups, interaction behaviors, and design guidelines.

• Experience collaborating with product designers, process engineers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure user-centered solutions align with workflows and mission requirements.

• Experience conducting accessibility and Section 508 compliance testing to ensure user interfaces meet applicable regulatory and usability standards.

• Experience collecting and analyzing user feedback through surveys and behavioral data to guide design improvements and UX decisions.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with small teams and larger cross-functional groups.

• Experience creating interactive prototypes to validate design concepts and communicate interactions to stakeholders and development teams.

Key Responsibilities & LCAT Capabilities:

• Support the modernization of an existing data tracking and metrics system with a focus on improving usability and the overall end-user experience.

• Research user needs, workflows, behaviors, and performance requirements and translate findings into actionable UI/UX requirements.

• Design highly usable and accessible end-user interfaces using established UI and UX best practices.

• Develop wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, user scenarios, interaction behaviors, and supporting design documentation.

• Conduct usability testing and analyze user feedback to identify opportunities for continuous design improvement.

• Conduct accessibility and Section 508 compliance testing throughout the development lifecycle.

• Collaborate with users, analysts, product designers, process engineers, Systems Engineers, and software-development teams.

• Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based on documented requirements.

• Review and test software components for adherence to established design requirements and document test results.

• Troubleshoot and resolve software and design-related problems.

• Apply software-development and software-design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.

• Provide input into system and software design, including hardware/software tradeoffs, software reuse, COTS/GOTS solutions, and requirements analysis and synthesis.

• Recommend new technologies and processes for complex software projects.

• Serve as a technical lead across software-development efforts, as required.

• Coordinate software-development processes with customers and Systems Engineering.

• Ensure quality control of developed and modified software.

• Delegate and oversee programming and testing activities across development teams, as applicable.

Education & Experience:

• Twenty (20) years of Software Engineering experience on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.

• Four (4) years of additional Software Engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with Adobe Suite.

• Experience with the following:

  • Voice or video processing systems involving the ingest of multiple audio and video formats, playback to end users, storage, and retrieval.

  • Ingest, storage, content search, and retrieval of 500 GB per day or more of multilingual text.

  • Distributed peer-to-peer content storage and retrieval systems with more than 500 nodes.

  • Metadata indexing and summarization.

  • Content and metadata data mining.

  • Data visualization and analytics.

• A minimum of six (6) years of demonstrated experience within the most recent eight (8) years developing production software for Solaris or Linux operating systems.

• Six (6) years of experience developing software using Java, C, or C++.

• Demonstrated experience developing RESTful services.

Clearance Requirements:

• Active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph is required.

Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance is required.

Salary Range: $86.20 to $136.27 per hour

Hourly pay rates listed for this position serve as a general guideline and are not a guarantee of compensation. Compensation will vary dependent upon factors including but not limited to: Government contract rates; education; relevant prior work experience, knowledge, skills, and competencies; certifications, and geographic location. Hourly pay rates reflect the pre-benefit gross wage amounts.
