Software Engineer – Level 3
Wyetech is seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer – Level 3 to lead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of complex software systems supporting mission-critical national security and Intelligence Community operations.
This position focuses on engineering sophisticated software solutions, including processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, large-scale data manipulation, real-time systems, and enterprise information management applications.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive software engineering experience, strong technical leadership capabilities, and expertise in designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and high-performance software systems. This role requires the ability to oversee multiple software development teams, establish effective engineering processes, and ensure the successful delivery of complex software capabilities aligned with customer mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Software Engineering & Development
Design, develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems based on documented functional and technical requirements.
Develop software solutions supporting processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithms, large-scale datasets, real-time systems, and business management information systems.
Analyze system-level requirements and translate them into detailed software component specifications.
Apply appropriate software design methodologies and development processes to meet project requirements.
Evaluate hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse opportunities, and the integration of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) products.
Review and test software components to verify adherence to design requirements and document test results.
Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software problem reports.
Support software integration, enhancement, maintenance, and operational sustainment.
Technical Leadership & Team Management
Serve as the technical lead for multiple software development teams.
Recommend new technologies, development methodologies, and engineering processes for complex software projects.
Select and implement software development processes in coordination with customers and systems engineering teams.
Ensure quality control of all developed and modified software.
Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more development teams and monitor their performance.
Provide technical direction, mentorship, and oversight to software engineers.
Coordinate engineering activities to ensure software development efforts align with project requirements and operational priorities.
Review software deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, performance, and compliance with development standards.
Software Integration, Testing & Quality Assurance
Establish and maintain software quality assurance and testing processes.
Review software components and system designs to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
Develop and oversee software testing strategies, validation procedures, and defect resolution activities.
Coordinate software integration and deployment activities across multiple development teams.
Identify and resolve complex software defects, performance issues, and integration challenges.
Ensure software products meet established reliability, scalability, and operational requirements.
Support continuous improvement initiatives involving software quality, development efficiency, and maintainability.
Systems Engineering & Technical Collaboration
Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware engineers, and customer stakeholders to define and refine software requirements.
Evaluate system capabilities, technical constraints, performance requirements, and software interfaces.
Provide technical input to system architecture and software component design decisions.
Participate in engineering reviews, technical assessments, and software integration planning.
Support the implementation of new technologies and modernization of existing software systems.
Coordinate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful delivery of mission-critical software capabilities.
Required Qualifications
Active TS/SCI security clearance with current Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) is required.
Twenty (20) years of experience as a Software Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
Four (4) additional years of relevant software engineering experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
Extensive experience developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software systems.
Demonstrated experience leading multiple software development teams and coordinating engineering activities.
Experience recommending and implementing new technologies, methodologies, and development processes for complex software projects.
Ability to select appropriate software development processes in coordination with customers and systems engineering personnel.
Demonstrated experience ensuring quality control of developed and modified software.
Experience delegating programming and testing responsibilities and monitoring team performance.
Strong understanding of software development methodologies, software architecture, requirements analysis, integration, testing, and sustainment.
Experience evaluating hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse opportunities, and COTS/GOTS integration.
Ability to translate system-level requirements into software component designs and technical specifications.
Experience reviewing and testing software components, documenting results, and resolving software problem reports.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, technical documentation, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing voice or video processing systems supporting the ingestion of multiple audio and video formats, playback to end users, storage, and retrieval.
Experience supporting the ingestion, storage, content search, and retrieval of 500 GB or more per day of multilingual text.
Experience developing or supporting distributed peer-to-peer content storage and retrieval systems with more than 500 nodes.
Experience with metadata indexing, metadata summarization, content and metadata mining, visualization, and analytics.
At least six (6) years of experience within the most recent eight (8) years developing production software for Solaris or Linux operating systems.
Six (6) years of experience developing software using Java, C, or C++.
Demonstrated experience developing and integrating RESTful services and APIs.
Experience designing and developing scalable software solutions for large-scale distributed environments.
Experience supporting high-volume data processing, storage, retrieval, and analytic systems.
Familiarity with software performance optimization, distributed architectures, and system reliability.
Experience developing technical documentation and improving software development standards.
Experience coordinating technical activities across multiple software development teams.
Experience supporting Intelligence Community or other mission-critical enterprise systems.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to improve engineering quality and team performance.
Support software documentation, testing, deployment, maintenance, and operational sustainment.
Clearance Requirements
Active TS/SCI security clearance with current Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) is required.
Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position-appropriate security clearance are required.

Salary Range: $94.44 to $127.89 per hour
Hourly pay rates listed for this position serve as a general guideline and are not a guarantee of compensation. Compensation will vary dependent upon factors including but not limited to Government contract rates; education; relevant prior work experience, knowledge, skills, and competencies; certifications; and geographic location. Hourly pay rates reflect the pre-benefit gross wage amounts.
