Software Engineer – Level 2
Wyetech is seeking an experienced Software Engineer – Level 2 to develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems supporting mission-critical national security operations.
This position involves engineering sophisticated software solutions, including processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large datasets, real-time systems, and business management information systems.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive software engineering experience, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively within multidisciplinary development teams. This role also provides opportunities for technical leadership, software quality assurance, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.
Key Responsibilities
Software Design & Development
Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based on documented requirements.
Design and implement complex algorithms while adhering to strict timing, system resource, performance, and interface constraints.
Develop software solutions supporting processing-intensive analytics, large-scale data manipulation, real-time applications, and mission-critical information systems.
Analyze software requirements and contribute to system architecture and component-level design.
Apply appropriate software development and design methodologies throughout the software development lifecycle.
Evaluate hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse opportunities, and integration of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) technologies.
Translate system-level requirements into detailed software component specifications.
Develop and maintain software components that satisfy functional, performance, and operational requirements.
Software Integration, Testing & Quality Assurance
Review and test software components to ensure adherence to design requirements and established development standards.
Develop, execute, and document software testing activities and results.
Identify, investigate, and resolve software problem reports.
Perform quality control reviews on team-developed software products.
Coordinate software system installation and integration activities.
Monitor software and associated equipment functionality to ensure operational specifications are met.
Identify opportunities to improve software reliability, maintainability, and performance.
Support troubleshooting, debugging, and resolution of complex software integration issues.
Systems Engineering & Technical Collaboration
Collaborate with systems engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and evaluate technical limitations.
Assess project constraints, system capabilities, performance requirements, and hardware/software interfaces.
Provide technical input to system design decisions, including software architecture, component integration, and technology selection.
Participate in technical reviews, design discussions, and engineering assessments.
Support integration of new software capabilities into existing operational environments.
Coordinate with technical stakeholders to ensure software solutions align with mission and system requirements.
Technical Leadership & Process Improvement
Provide technical guidance and oversight to one or more software development teams.
Ensure software development activities are completed in accordance with project requirements, schedules, and established development processes.
Review team deliverables for technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with engineering standards.
Recommend and implement improvements to software development processes, documentation, and engineering standards.
Promote effective software design, testing, configuration management, and development practices.
Support collaboration across software engineering, systems engineering, and technical operations teams.
Required Qualifications
Active TS/SCI security clearance with current Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) is required.
Fourteen (14) years of experience as a Software Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
Four (4) additional years of relevant software engineering experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software systems.
Experience designing and implementing software algorithms that must satisfy strict timing, resource utilization, performance, or interface constraints.
Experience performing software component reviews, testing, quality control, and problem resolution.
Strong understanding of software development methodologies, engineering standards, and software lifecycle processes.
Experience translating system-level requirements into software component designs and specifications.
Ability to evaluate hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, and integration of COTS/GOTS technologies.
Experience collaborating with systems engineers, hardware engineers, and other technical stakeholders.
Experience supporting software installation, integration, troubleshooting, and operational verification.
Ability to provide technical guidance and coordinate software development activities.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Four (4) years of demonstrated experience developing software using high-level programming languages, such as Java, C, or C++.
Experience working with open-source NoSQL technologies such as HBase, Accumulo, Bigtable, or comparable distributed data platforms.
At least three (3) years of experience developing software for UNIX/Linux operating systems, including Red Hat-based environments.
Demonstrated experience developing and integrating RESTful services and APIs.
Experience developing applications that process large datasets or support distributed computing environments.
Familiarity with software integration, system performance optimization, and troubleshooting within complex enterprise environments.
Experience supporting Agile or other structured software development methodologies.
Experience developing technical documentation and recommending improvements to software development standards.
Experience leading technical teams or coordinating software engineering deliverables.

Support development and implementation of software components within distributed or mission-critical systems.
Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing software architectures and development processes.
Review technical documentation and software products to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with requirements.
Coordinate integration activities and verify software functionality within operational environments.
Support technical risk identification and resolution throughout the software development lifecycle.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and support mission objectives.
Provide technical leadership to improve software quality, maintainability, and development efficiency.
Clearance Requirements
Active TS/SCI security clearance with current Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) is required.
Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position-appropriate security clearance are required.

Salary Range: $84.08 to $113.86 per hour
Hourly pay rates listed for this position serve as a general guideline and are not a guarantee of compensation. Compensation will vary dependent upon factors including but not limited to Government contract rates; education; relevant prior work experience, knowledge, skills, and competencies; certifications; and geographic location. Hourly pay rates reflect the pre-benefit gross wage amounts.
